Take Action – What You Can Do
Often when we read or hear about a wrongful death or catastrophic injury that someone has suffered as a result of an unsafe, defective product, we are angered or upset. Now imagine if a friend or loved one was injured – or you yourself. You may have experienced this type of tragic occurrence in your own life, or you may know someone facing this situation. Once the initial anger and frustration subsides, the next thing that often comes to mind is, “How could this have been prevented?” and “What can I do to keep it from happening to others?”
There are a variety of ways in which you can get involved in The Shane McGee Foundation’s cause…which is to increase public awareness about unsafe products and practices, thus increasing public safety. We also seek to provide consumer education that protects them from fraud, and unscrupulous practices. We will disseminate information on topics like identity theft, credit card fraud, scams against seniors, and similar problems that can plague unwary consumers.
One thing you can do is join an organization such as
Public Citizen, which supports public/consumer safety.
Another way to further this cause is to stay informed about legislation that affects public safety and product manufacturer accountability, and to support the candidates that support this cause. You can do this via your own vote, the votes of your friends and peers, and by disseminating the information about the legislation and candidates to others. By checking back here every few weeks, you’ll see updates pertaining to consumer protection and safety legislation.
Just by visiting this website regularly, and telling others about it, you are supporting the cause! We’d also like to ask your help in promoting our consumer safety events. When you see an event notice posted on our site, please share the info with your friends to spread the message. You can also sign up to be notified when one of our events is taking place, with our
Sign-Up form. The more people we can inform about our website, our Foundation, and public safety issues in general, the greater difference we are making!
Your Story
The McGees sadly realize that they are not alone in having a tragic or injurious occurrence due to negligence or deception by a manufacturer, or some other misdeed by a business. We know that there are many victims out there, some of whom were able to gain justice and receive compensation and closure, and others who have not been able to do so.
We invite you to
share your story with us, and we will review it for placement here on the site. And if you lost someone, you have our sympathy, our empathy, and our condolences. Thank you for sharing what you experienced – and what you learned – with our community.
If you'd like to
read the stories that others have submitted, remember that they are real occurrences that happened to real people.
