Memorial Scholarship

As part of the McGee family’s effort to memorialize their son’s life and help other students to attend college, as he would have done, the Foundation has established an annual Scholarship Fund. Each year, two Broward County high school seniors will receive $5,000 toward their college education. The award decision will be made by the McGee Foundation Board of Directors.

In December 2007, the first call for applications were distributed to four Broward High Schools. Today, eligible schools have expanded to include: Flanagan High School, Pembroke Pines Charter School, Cooper City High School, McArthur High School, Fort Lauderdale High School, Hollywood Hills High School, Monarch High School, Nova High School, Western High School, Blanche Ely High School, West Broward High School and Plantation High School. The application has evolved from writing a 500-word essay and answering several questions to answering three 200-word questions, a 500-word essay and providing letters of recommendation from school faculty, community service organizations, and/or an employer.

If you or someone you know is a high school senior from one of the above ten schools – especially if you have an interest in the law and the legal profession – we encourage you to ask the BRACE (Broward Advisors for Continuing Education) Coordinator for your school about The Shane McGee Foundation Memorial Scholarship. You may also see the press release announcing the scholarship in the Newsroom section of this site.
