The Shane McGee Foundation Announces
2010 Memorial Scholarship
Pembroke Pines, FL - The Shane McGee Foundation board members are pleased to announce the 2010 Shane McGee Foundation Memorial Scholarship. This is Foundation's fourth annual Memorial Scholarship. To date, the Foundation has provided $25,000 to six deserving students who are currently enrolled in the University of Florida and Florida State.
"The Shane McGee Foundation Memorial Scholarship allows deserving students with an interest in the field of law to continue their education and pursue a dream that may not otherwise be possible," said Foundation Board Member and retired teacher Robert McGee. "The two scholarships are in the amount of five thousand dollars, and will be paid directly to the college of the student's choice."
Senior class students from Flanagan High School, Pembroke Pines Charter High School, McArthur High School, Cooper City High School, Hollywood Hills High School, Fort Lauderdale High School, Monarch High School, Nova High School, Western High School, Blanche Ely High School, West Broward High School, Pompano Beach High School and Plantation High School are invited to participate. Students must submit an application form, answer three 200-word questions, write a 500-word essay and supply two letters of recommendation from school faculty, community service organizations, and/or an employer. Applications must be postmarked by April 19, 2010. Participating high school's BRACE Coordinators have received the scholarship information and application.
"We are very excited to be in our third year of providing these scholarships to worthy students," said Foundation Board Member Constance McGee. "These students maintain exceptional academic records and are also active in their communities and schools. They have great futures ahead of them and we want to encourage an interest in our legal system, while helping bright, motivated
students get the education they seek."
The Shane McGee Foundation's Board of Directors will review the applications and essays and select the scholarship recipient. Winning students will be recognized in a special ceremony during the Broward County Bar Association's Law Day Luncheon in May. The students will be joined by Foundation members, judges, and local attorneys for lunch. After lunch, the students will be treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the courthouse, escorted by a Broward County judge.
The Shane McGee Foundation is a private non-profit operating foundation, governed by a five-member Board of Directors. The Foundation looks to educate consumers on dangerous products, hold accountable our elected officials and corporations, and provide a community where victims and their families can pursue personal wellness and drive change within our communities.
